Registration as a citizen

The following pictures show you how to register on the portal for citizens and business customers.

To use customs services online, create a citizens account. During the registration process, we ask for personal data to identify you.

2. Create a new citizen account

You can create a new citizen account under the start page item "Create an account now!".
In the next step, select the account that is appropriate for you. For a new citizen account, please select the first item "Citizen account".
Sole proprietorships, associations of persons, clubs, registered merchants (eingetragener Kaufmann - e.K.) or freelancers, etc. can only register as business customers in the portal for citizens and business customers.

3. Set access method

Select your access method. The following access methods:

  • ELSTER,
  • identity card (new identity card or electronic residence permit), or
  • email and password.

may be selected.

Please note that the services offered are subject to different conditions with regard to access. Access via ELSTER or identity card is recommended in order to be able to fully use all the services on the portal for citizens and business customers.

If you have selected ELSTER or identity card as an access method, you will be redirected to the relevant provider’s website to enter the access method. Here you can see all the data sent to the portal for citizens and business customers. Please check and confirm this data. You will then be directed back to the registration process of the portal for citizens and business customers

4. Enter user details

Please enter your user details: first and last name, email address, password and preferred language.
If you have selected ELSTER or identity card as an access method in the previous step, please note that some fields are pre-filled with the data provided.

5. Validate email

Once you have entered your user details, you will receive an email at the address you provided.
The link in the email will allow you to activate your account. You will then receive a confirmation message that will allow you to proceed to registration.

6. Log in

Log in with the access method you used for the registration process.

If you select ELSTER or identity card here, you will again be redirected to the website of the corresponding provider to enter this access method and then back to the portal for citizens and business customers.

7. Complete data

The next step is to enter your personal data such as address and date of birth.
If you have selected ELSTER or identity card as an access method, please note that some fields are pre-filled with the data provided.

Provision of notices

You can consent to the electronic provision of notices to make it possible for you to retrieve your notices online in the portal for citizens and business customers. Please note that this applies only to the services offered through the portal for citizens and business customers.

For other customs services, you will continue to receive the notices in the usual way.

8. Confirmation

After you have entered your data, it will be verified by customs. In individual cases, this process can take up to several days. After successful verification of your data, you will receive a confirmation of approval in the form of an email at the address you entered, which confirms that you can now use your account.
