As an access method, you can enter your e-mail address and password, ELSTER and the German National Identity Card (nPA) or electronic residence permit.
For many customs services, you need at least an ELSTER certificate to be able to identify yourself digitally. To be able to use an ELSTER certificate, you must register with ELSTER at www.elster.de.
If you would like to activate your new identity card or electronic residence permit to use the online identity card function, you can do so when you pick up your identity card at your local citizens office, at one of their terminals or on your computer. Further information can be found here: the German National Identity Card or electronic residence permit with online identity card function.
The use of electronic certificates serves to protect your identity on the Internet.
To navigate to "Access methods", click "Account" in the navigation menu and then "Access method overview".
Deleting an access method from the “Access method overview” of your account will make it no longer possible to use that access method to log in to the Customs Portal. Other applications, such as the “Mein ELSTER” login, will not be affected by deleting your access method in the Customs Portal. However, it is only possible to delete access methods that are already stored in your account in the Customs Portal.
To guarantee you access to your account at all times, a stored password is a basic requirement for using the Customs Portal. It is therefore not possible to delete the password.
In addition, the deletion of the secure access methods “Identity card” or “ELSTER” from the Customs Portal may also be denied. This is because the functions of the Customs Portal are made available to users depending on the means of access users choose, and it is intended to ensure that essential portal functions can no longer be offered to users once a secure means of access has been deleted.
However, if you delete one of these access methods, you will still be able to delete your citizen or business customer account.
